Keeping our homes clean is of utmost importance these days. Whilst constant disinfection is key, we must also be careful that the household cleaning products used do not unintentionally harm our pets. Powerful disinfectants such as bleach or alcohol-based sanitisers usually contain strong acid, alkaline, ammonia, or other chemical substances, which can be toxic and put your pet’s health at risk. If such components come in contact with their paw pads, skin or eyes, it can cause inflammation, and even result in vomiting and abdominal pain if ingested. With pets superior sense of smell, the strong scent of those cleaners or aerosolized spray can also make them prone to irritation of the nose, and possibly lead to breathing problems.

現今保持家居衛生尤其重要。儘管恆常消毒是關鍵，但我們必須注意所用的家居清潔產品不會間接危害毛孩的健康。大部分清潔能力較強的消毒劑（例如漂白劑或酒精消毒劑）都含有強酸、強鹼、阿摩尼亞或其他化學物質，這些物質可能含有毒性，並威脅寵物的健康。如果牠們的掌墊、皮膚或眼睛接觸到這些物質，可能會引起發炎，誤食的話甚至會導致嘔吐和腹痛。寵物具有靈敏的嗅覺，這些清潔劑或噴霧劑的強烈氣味容易刺激毛孩的鼻子，並可能令牠們呼吸困難！

So, how can we keep our furry friends safe? When cleaning with disinfectants, follow the instructions given on the labels. Furthermore, be sure to rinse the newly cleaned area with plenty of water, and keep your pet away until it is completely dry. Also, store cleaning products in a closed cabinet, so that pets will not be able to have direct contact with such products. If your pet shows symptoms of poisoning (vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, seizures), please seek veterinary assistance right away.

那麼，我們應該如何確保毛孩的安全？首先當你使用消毒劑清潔時，請遵循標籤上的使用說明。此外，記得用大量的清水沖洗剛剛消毒過的地方，並讓寵物遠離直到表面的水完全乾透。另外，您應該將清潔用品擺放在寵物無法接觸的密閉櫃子內。假如寵物出現中毒症狀（例如嘔吐、腹瀉、精神不振、抽蓄），請立即尋求獸醫協助。
